Families & Educators Together: Session 1 - Understanding Family Engagement
The 2020 NAEYC Position Statement on Developmentally Appropriate Practice tells early childhood educators, “Developmentally appropriate practice requires deep knowledge about each child, including the context with which each child is living. Educators acquire much of this knowledge through respectful, reciprocal relationships with children’s families” (p. 18). This training has been developed for the early childhood workforce to support the understanding and implementation of systems and practices that lead to reciprocal partnerships between families and the early childhood community.
This session is designed to help participants become acquainted with the NAEYC publication, Families & Educators Together: Building Great Relationships that Support Young Children. The emphasis will be on the key components of the book's first chapter, which outlines a definition of "family," an overview of the characteristics of families, differentiates between family involvement and family engagement, and presents the six principles of family engagement.
This training is available at no cost due to grant funding.
